On my recent trip to Mexico, I enjoyed an amazing morning SUP’ing and snorkeling at Xpu Ha Beach (pronounced esh poo ha), this beach is incredibly beautiful with clear aquamarine colored water and gorgeous white sand beaches. Highly recommend Aloha Paddle Club! I know I will be returning there on my next visit.

Paddle And Snorkel Xpu Ha Beach & Reef On A Private Paddleboard Expedition

It’s a fun trip to Xpu Ha Beach which lies about 30 minutes driving from Playa del Carmen. We bring our boards so we can enjoy the sea and paddle to the nearby reef.

Xpu Ha (pronounce SHPOO-haa) means “Stream of two waters” in Maya. It is getting more popular with people who don’t mind making a little bit of effort to leave Playa del Carmen with its crowded beaches and make a little trip to this easily accessible beach.

The sea in front of Xpu Ha is very shallow, which makes it perfect for swimming, snorkeling and standup paddleboarding.

Xpu Ha is still relatively under-developed, so no big resorts or hotels. There is a beautiful coral reef close enough to swim to or to paddle to, in our case.

The beach is surrounded by mangrove which makes a perfect safe haven for many animals, and in the summer months we can find many turtles here that come to lay eggs.

Expedition Xpu Ha is for all levels, and is great for persons with or without any previous experience depending on the weather of course.

Going to Xpu Ha beach is a great way to see another beach in the Riviera Maya and to enjoy the beautiful coral reef which is very close to the beach and to where we can easily paddle. This option is a great combination of both active board sport and snorkeling.

The reef is still well preserved and full of life. To keep it this way we can only use reef safe sunscreen, so be sure to be wearing that. If you don’t have it, we sell a great product.
