Lagoon Kaan Luum is a truly unique place that is still relatively unknown to most visitors to the Riviera Maya. Let’s go there before the masses discover it!
Kaan Luum is a large, round lagoon with a deep crater in the center which leads to an under water cenote. This lagoon is ideal for standup paddle, even if it’s your first time.
The name Kaan Luum in Maya means ‘yellow earth’ and you wil understand why once you fall in the water and sink knee deep into this muddy substance. The soil is a big layer of limestone residu from centuries of erosion, which makes a great body scrub. There are also little fish that nibble on your toes. So welcome to our Aloha spa!
KAAN LUUM IS STILL RELATIVELY UNKNOWN TO THE CROWDS
Thanks to its location 15 minutes South of Tulum, the lagoon is still relatively undiscovered which means that normally it won’t be too busy there. The good thing about going with Aloha is that we can take our paddleboards and have the rest of the lagoon to ourselves.
You will get an introduction to standup paddleboarding on the dock by one of our instructors. After that we will start our standup paddleboard dream on the beautiful yellow and jade colored waters of the lagoon. The entrance is really shallow so it’s a great place to start. The further we go on the lagoon, the deeper it gets (unless we stay close to the sides).

Once we paddle away from the dock at the entrance, there is only silence, and the wind, and sound of birds. You will truly feel like you’re away from the crowd.
One of the things we like to do, is to paddle to the other side of the lagoon, anchor our boards there and relax, try some yoga poses or get you can give yourself a nice body scrub with the yellow mud.

12:00 PM: Taco Temptation! Indulge in the flavors of Mexico with a delicious taco feast, fueling your body and soul for the journey ahead.

Here are some of the most common questions we get asked when clients book our tours.
If you have a question or concern that is not answered here, please contact us directly.
Since all our tours are private tours, we can start at your preferred time. We normally choose to start early to beat the crowds. In general pick up will be between 7 and 8 am.
All our private tours include private transportation, so we can pick you up in your hotel or resort.
We will need your room number plus the name on te reservation.
Yes, technically anyone can do our tours, although when there is walking and swimming involved you probably know best who can and can’t do the tour.
- Paddleboarding in the lagoon can involve some medium paddling effort depending on the wind. Our instructor can always assist you.
- Paddleboarding in the cenote in general is pretty calm.
- Snorkel tours are for all levels, but can be a bit of a swim if the wind picks up. We can discuss prior to your tour whether it’s possible for you to do.
We can provide life jackets for people who don’t know how to swim, or who are not comfortable in the water.
- For snorkel tours in the sea, depending on the conditions we can decide on the spot if it’s suitable for someone yes or no. We also will always try to communicate with you about weather conditions prior to your activity date.
- For paddleboard tours, it shouldn’t be a problem since you can stay on the board.
In case of bad weather, we can decide to either reschedule or cancel and refund you. We will always try to let you know in advance if we can’t do it, but on occasion we will need to decide on the spot. In general, (light) rain is not a valid reason to cancel. We will cancel if we can’t guarantee your safety or you having a fun time: storm, lightning and heavy wind are good reasons to cancel.
If for some reason you are running late, please let us know asap by phone or WhatsApp. We will always reach out to you before the tour to check in with you. If you are late, it could mean that we need to take this off of the time we have for the tour, depending on how late you are.
If for some reason we are late, or if there is a lot of traffic on the road, we will make sure that this doesn’t affect the time that we calculated for the various tour options.
We provide you with drinks and snacks during the tour. Most tours we also include our faoprite tacos.
All you need to bring is a towel, bathing suit, dry clothes, any sun protection like sun glasses, caps, rash guard etc. Remember, most of our tours we can’t allow the use of sunscreen not to harm the ecosystem. We will always bring some eco friendly sunscreen in case you need some for your face.
Bring money for extra purchases and for tips, which is always highly appreciated here in the Riviera Maya.
Our cancellation policy applies to all private tours and for all cancellations and no shows. Please take a minute to take note of them.
FOR OUR PRIVATE TOURS:
You will get a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before your activity or tour date and time. If you cancel after that, there is a 50% refund.
Same day cancellations or no shows unfortunately there will be no refund.
